So I was on the 1 bus the other day, traveling to the mall from campus. Let me repeat: We were traveling away from campus.
We're past campus. We are not on campus at all anymore. We're actually past Hagadorn, even.
(I know this isn't that informative for people who don't live in East Lansing, but just know that we were significantly on our way to the mall and we were off campus.)
Okay. So we stop at a bus stop and a couple of people get off. A girl gets on and asks, "Um, is this bus going to West Holden?"
A couple of things.
First of all, this is the 1. It travels up and down Grand River and Michigan Avenues and doesn't ever go to campus. It goes past campus, but never onto campus. You should know this. But I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. She was probably a freshman. Maybe she had never ridden the 1 before.
But honestly, that's not an excuse because there is a map at every stop that shows you where each bus that stops at that stop goes. So she should have looked at that while she was waiting for the bus in the first place.
Really though, the problem is that she asked if the bus was going to West Holden.
West Holden is one dorm on the very large campus that is MSU.
THAT IS TOO SPECIFIC.
Even if you don't know where you are or where the 1 is going, I'm sure you know that you're not on campus. So you should really be asking, "Is this bus going to campus?"
And even if you want to be more specific than that, you should just ask if the bus is going to South neighborhood.
And then I guess if you want to be more specific, you could ask about Holden in general.
But to seriously ask if this bus, which is not even on campus at all and is in fact driving in the opposite direction of campus, is going to WEST Holden, you have to be one of the dumbest people I've ever seen.
Everyone in the front half of the bus laughed.
The bus driver was like, "No...and there aren't any buses out this way that'll take you onto campus."
She frowned, said, "Oh. Okay," and turned around and got off the bus.
Girlfriend, you are so dumb.
